North
Carolina A&T Student Union
Greensboro,
North Carolina
The
main challenge in this project was to redefine the meaning and purpose
of the Union Building. As a result, the Adams Group Architects conducted
a campus-wide student survey that focused on determining appropriate student
services and entertainment functions for the project. This was the first
such survey conducted at the university. Also, it was critical to conceptualize
ways in which the new addition and renovation works would blend in with
the existing physical context. Based on this, the architectural program
was formed to better serve the growing student population located at the
heart of N.C. A&T urban campus. The center provides a variety of services
to the students accommodated in series of spaces with natural light while
integrating social and behavioral aspects into an integrated facility
forms. One feature included in the final design is a student cyber cafe
that integrates technology and social opportunities.
