Lighthouse Recreation and Community Center

A pre-design study was conducted for this new recreation center and school. A comprehensive program has been developed for the center, which includes areas for basket ball, volleyball, weight lifting, aerobics, dance, locker rooms and showers, offices, outreach center, training room, equipment storage, a performance stage and service areas along with computer lab, arts, and crafts, and a music center. The center is located on the site to facilitate access from adjoining neighborhoods and public transit. The school is currently located within church facilities. These areas are spatially restricted and require significant improvements. Envisioned as a component of the community center, the school offers a K–5 program during the day and will provide space for English as a second language for continuing education classes during evening hours. As such, the school will have an impressive daily use schedule for education.
