Hewlett Packard Headquarters: Strategic Planning
Indianapolis, Indiana

Conventional working patterns are changing dramatically and new patterns are emerging as the opportunities provided by the technologies touch on every aspect of the workplace environment. Space management is a powerful tool for inducing cultural change in corporate organizations. Our consulting team implemented a complete analysis of Hewlett Packard functional and space utilization needs. Comprehensive new designs for modular office layouts, furnishings, and national standards resulted from a participatory planning process. The study included system-furniture layouts, filing design and all supporting, teaming and conferencing areas. Based on the study, prototypical offices were designed and constructed in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Santa Clara, California, resulting in 40,000 sq. ft. reduced area and improved staff support and productivity. Post occupancy analysis revealed improved user satisfaction, personalization and customer response time.
